A BRADFORD man branded a “repeated and regular abuser of driving laws” was jailed for eight months for breaching a dangerous driving sentence.
Aiden Bairstow, 30, of Flawith Drive, Fagley, Bradford, was sentenced to eight months in prison after breaching a suspended sentence for dangerous driving by committing two offences, driving whilst disqualified and driving without offence.
In Bradford Crown Court on Wednesday, a Crown prosecutor said that Bairstow committed those offences on October 8 of this year when he was sighted by police driving a Ford Transit van on Thornton Road.
In mitigation, the Crown prosecutor mentioned Bairstow had 11 previous convictions for driving-related offences including a dangerous driving offence committed in 2019.
In June 2022, he received a 10-month sentence which was suspended for two years.
Bairstow’s defence solicitor said his client made a “silly split-second decision” to drive his friend’s van up the road.
In handing down the sentence, Recorder Simon Eckersley said: “You had a bad offence for dangerous driving and with eight months left on your suspended sentence, you drove whilst disqualified and without insurance.
“You are a repeated and regular abuser of driving laws and regulations. You also had a flagrant disregard for this sentence and these courts.”
Recorder Eckersley sentenced Bairstow to eight months in prison, with five months being half of his original dangerous driving sentence and a further three months for driving whilst disqualified.
