I got there in the end (after driving halfway to Wales because of a
string of 'Exit Closed's on the M4). Four years later and they are still 'carrying out improvements' each weekend. It seems like a job for life
(like painting the Forth Road Bridge used to be, until they scraped it
down to the bare metal, and painted it with long-life paint).

    Pedant Alert!!!

You are thinking of The Forth RAIL Bridge.
Which, if my researches are to be believed, is the 26th bridge across
the Forth. Both the River and the Firth.

Jim, you being a fitba hater may not realise Scotland are playing
Ukraine tomorrow night in a World Cup play off match.
Virtually the whole of Europe will be without doubt supporting the
country that has suffered so such torment and heartache at the hands
of an immoral leader and will be hoping for a decent win that would
bring the much needed lift to a desperate population.
On the other hand, I'm sure there will be a few who'd prefer a Ukraine
    win.
