• Finding my old x-face

From Sara Merriman@21:1/5 to All on Thu Jan 26 07:37:36 2023
I've been using Usenapp for a while now and since it started showing x-faces I've been trying to find my old x-face. I couldn't find it anywhere so i tried to redraw it. As you can see it's a mess.

Would anyone have an idea how on earth I can find my old one? Is there an archive somewhere online that would include x-faces?

It's not on this machine - it vanished with the demise of MTNewswatcher.

I found one in the header of your old posts.
I used it in this post so you can see what it looks like.

I believe that there are archives of usenet posts that go way back. But I
don't know if you can access the headers on them.

But I expect that you have already tried this!

    John.

I have tried and failed - all the archives I can find seem to be based on binaries, so they're searching for bin or nzb files. Google Groups don't show headers - or if they do, buggered if I can work out how. I'm going to have to draw up a new one :(

Yes, I remember your old x-face and, along with others, missed it when they
all went away. I've sort-of got mine going again. Your most recent one is starting to look familiar. Persumably you binned all your old settings and
none of that is an any backup or old disk sitting on a shelf?

Sadly no - different machines, different OSs, different newsservers, different newsreader. But Andre the Usenapp creator saved the day and found it for me. I was so happy.

Since this is where Rog and I met, it seems appropriate to let you all
know that we finally did it, the wedding was yesterday. Here we are, in
our beautiful room at the wedding venue, in our huge bed, with our
    laptops posting to usenet.

    Ain't life grand!
