PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- Michael Turney, the Valley man acquitted last
summer in the murder of his stepdaughter Alissa Turney, is now suing the Phoenix Police Department, Maricopa County’s top prosecutor and now-former Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone.

In Turney’s complaint against the defendants, he claims two Phoenix police officers “colluded” with a Maricopa County prosecutor to punish him “under
the shield of law before due process.” He also alleged he was imprisoned
at the Maricopa County jail when “insufficient evidence existed.” The
complaint also mentions allegations against former Maricopa County
Attorney Allister Adel and current County Attorney Rachel Mitchell.

Turney said that former Sheriff Penzone and staff members didn’t provide “adequate and appropriate medical care, balanced diet, loss of outside
fresh air and exercise, dental care and COVID-19 preventions,” while he
was imprisoned. Turney also claimed that officers used excessive force
during the time of his arrest. The complaint states Phoenix Police “chose
a full military operation” once officers spotted Turney on his electric
bike while he was riding in Phoenix, and Turney claimed he had injuries
from an armored car hitting him and an officer striking his throat.

In total, Turney is requesting over $300,000 in damages, including $1,800
in damages for the “military assault” and $10,000 for teeth repair.

Last year, Turney was acquitted by a judge of all murder charges in his stepdaughter’s death, ruling there wasn’t enough evidence to warrant a conviction. Prosecutors previously said he took hundreds of tapes and recordings of Alissa and tried to control her life. But his defense team
stated in court there was no evidence of a crime scene and no proof that
    Alissa is dead.
