    That feels as invitation to cyber war. Who cares about Usenet these days so lot to take some action? People just go away and leave the groups to mindless
    spam bot scripts that fill servers with garbage.

    My guess is the aim is the harvesting of email addresses. People
    reply to the spam, even if it's only to shout at it, which may be enough
    for them
