Fire:
Fire, light, attracts fish. Makes for easier pickings.
More significantly though; fire opens shell fish. And
if it doesn't open them. they're bad. They know they
can't eat them.
Fish/shellfish can be eaten raw. They are eaten raw
every day in cities across the globe... and not just
in Sushi restaurants.
Meats can be eaten raw, and frequently are. There
are issues with some things, like chickens, where
they are prone to illness causing disease if they
are uncooked, but not all birds.
Duck can and according to most chefs SHOULD
BE served medium rare...
But in the case of Aquatic Ape, fire is a labor
saving device. They just have to gather the shellfish,
not open them. And, like I said, if they don't open
they know they're bad.
Spears:
Take a yet-to-be-fully-formed concept like a spear,
use it on an animal and you'll likely be seriously
injured or even killed.
Now use the same still-in-development concept in
Aquatic Ape, attempting to spear fish, and you can
fail all the live long day without endangering
yourself. PLUS this "Spear" is extremely useful in
finding shellfish under the mud/sand.
Water is a fluid. But, AIR is a fluid! Streamlining
for water results in streamlining for moving
through the air (throwing).
Agriculture:
Before there was a Göbekli Tepe in Anatolia,
before the rise of any proto agricultural people
in the early Holocene Levant (and we're talking
long, Long, LONG before!) there was this:
We suggest:
during the early Mid-Pleistocene, hominins implemented
multi-stage procedures comprising underwater gathering
& subsequent processing: drying, roasting & popping of
E.ferox nuts.
