• The absolute DUMBEST argument against Aquatic Ape

From JTEM is my hero@21:1/5 to All on Sat Sep 9 22:23:12 2023
I've heard this before, cite a really bad Youtube
video spewing it and I just ran into it again now,
so I have to say something:

    Sagittal crest.

This insane "Argument," this rationalization is
that the loss of the sagittal crest led to the
development of large brains in our ancestors.

This is incredibly stupid for two reasons:

#1. It's an "Answer" that itself needs an
    explanation.

Our brains need Omega-3s, and DHA specifically,
and you can make the sagittal crest larger or
smaller, nothing is going to change our
    dependence on the Omega-3s.

...you can't build a brick house without bricks,
no matter how much land you clear.

And the funny part about this is that our ancestors
were even more dependent on foods rich in DHA
than we are. They couldn't synthesize it as well as
    we do.

#2. It's Intelligent Design, not evolution.

NOBODY who grasps that Aquatic Ape is right
believes that they ate a lot of Omega-3s so they
grew bigger brains. That's the stuff of Afrocentric
idiocy. No, what people who accept the fact of
Aquatic Ape believe is that BECAUSE they were
consuming a diet rich in DHA, if & when "Bigger
Brain" mutations arose they not only had the DHA
to grow those bigger brains, but a higher population
    density, more opportunity/need for cooperative
behavior and more opportunities for further
    adaptations to arise.

The forest generally allows for a higher population
density than a savanna, and exploiting the sea can
support a higher population density than does the
    forest.

#3. The sagittal crest rationalization is circular.

Losing the sagittal crest allowed them to grow
bigger brains, but they lost the sagittal crest
because they grew bigger brains which losing
the sagittal crest allowed them to do and also
what caused them to do it.

It's the savanna "Running" idiocy all over again!

You know what I mean: "The evolved the ability
to stand upright and endurance run by standing
    upright and endurance running!"

in order for the endurance hunting to the catalyst,
the "Selective Pressure," they had to already be
doing it! So they were already doing the thing that
in turn allowed them to do the thing they needed
to do in order to be able to do it...

Much of mainstream P.A. is this stupid.

    So, again:

People who grasp that Aquatic Ape is right know
that we are speaking of evolution and not Intelligent
Design. They didn't grow larger brains because it
was a good idea or even because it was an
advantage. They needed a source for a high protein
diet rich in Omega-3s, and DHA in particular, and
they needed for an evolutionarily significant period
of time: Long enough for "Bigger Brain" mutations
to crop up, and for the utilization of those larger
brains t become fixed so that they represented a
    selective pressure.

You can't get that anywhere but a marine diet!

This "sagittal crest" idiocy is just that: Idiocy.

It doesn't survive *Any* scrutiny. It's an explanation
that lacks AND NEEDS an explanation itself! Or, as
the saying to aptly puts it:

"If it's half an answer then it's the smaller half."
