• The Stupidity of Tools

From JTEM is my hero@21:1/5 to All on Sun Jul 23 17:17:36 2023
I queued this up to one of the naughtier bits,
though by no means the most problematic:

    https://youtu.be/NhM-2P93hoI?t=227

You only have to watch for like 30 seconds
and you see a MASSIVE problem.

Every statement, every claim has it's spoken
and it's unspoken elements. I explained it all
    here:

    https://groups.google.com/g/talk.origins/c/P3FBPURFVek/m/rcAsUbbxBQAJ

Now, the problem with the bit I queued the
video up to is that it's dealing with South
America -- New World Monkeys. And if you
go back to South America 30 million years
ago, monkeys were not only thriving but
diversified FOR LONGER THAN the entire
    history of the genus Homo.

    Got that?

If you go back in time some 35 million years,
and go to South America, monkeys were
already diversified a million years earlier.

    AT LEAST!

So when you say monkeys used tools you
are saying that 35 million years of tool use
    is unknown and unknowable.

Which is stupid. Honestly, it's just plain
    stupid.

    Science requires precision. Language conveys
information, and "Information" has to be of
    use.

    "Tools" is not information.

In the context here, "Tools" and "Tool Use" is
placing monkeys at the same level of
    sophistication as countless other mammals,
birds and even invertebrates. It's not telling us
anything useful... if New World monkeys use
tools and New World monkeys were already
diversified 36 million years ago, tools are
    perfectly meaningless.

There's literally nothing special about them.

It's not even a selection bias, wetting your pants
over rocks because you can see them. It's just
    plain stupid.

"Well I can see this happening today, and I
can't see back 36 million years so through the
power of narcissism I pronounce what I see as
    vitally important!"
