A 36-year-old Berkeley woman was arrested Wednesday and could
face charges for attempted kidnapping as well as annoying
children on multiple occasions, the Berkeley Police Department
said.
The police department shared details of four separate incidents
that allegedly occurred in Central Berkeley. In one, the suspect
allegedly approached a 14-year-old boy in his front yard on the
2200 block of Jefferson Avenue and tried to shake his hand Aug.
29 at 5:30 p.m.; the same day at 6 p.m., she approached a 13-
year-old girl walking near Allston Way and McKinley Avenue,
police said. Police said the suspect also tried to lure a 15-
year-old boy into her car as he was walking near Allston Way and
Grant Street on Sept. 14 at 6:10 p.m., and six days later, on
Sept. 20 at 5:30 p.m., she allegedly approached and then
followed a 12-year-old boy riding his scooter in the area of
Sacramento Street and Addison Street.
Police said an "alert witness" helped detectives identify the
suspect and the department obtained an arrest warrant on Sept.
30. Police apprehended the suspect on Oct. 5 as she was driving
in the area of North Berkeley BART station.
The woman faces one count of attempted kidnapping and three
counts of annoying or molesting children, the department said.
