I think google proves my point. They are no longer the driver nad main innovator of the internet but are playing catch up.

They have ossified and are no longer an innovative company, and due to
what you mention, they will continue to ossify and stagnate.

Adding to that, I was indirectly involved myself in a situation where a
dual citizenship guy (russian was one of them) was let go due to not relinquishing his citizenship (that is a very difficult thing in todays
russia and he did not feel like travelling there and risk being sent to
the front).

I managed to get him 3 months extra salary and a new job with a higher
salary and I sincerely hope that the company that let him go will
disappear eventually.
