I am trying to find out as much as possible about gay life in Perth, >Western Australia. (I am considering taking a job there.)Like the city itself, the best word to describe Perth's gay life is "isolated". It's a small town, it doesn't take long to know everyone
I know that there are a couple of gay/lesbian bars and clubs,
but I am more interested in knowing the "feel" of the gay community
there.
Is it friendly, cliquish, political, oppressive, laid-back, club-
oriented, outdoorsy??? Enquiring minds want to know.
else, and new faces show up very rarely.
While there are a number of prominent persons in the community who could
not be called "pro-gay", they aren't really "anti-gay" either. Gay bashing
is almost unheard of, but that's perhaps because gays are somewhat low-profile in Perth. Not low-numbers, low-profile.
Once you make contact with the gay community, it's pretty much what you
make of it. Just like anywhere else.
