You know how Tzahal keeps claiming that they have “taken control” of
some part of Gaza, only for fighting to resume there again, until they
claim they have “taken control” of it again? And then the fighting
starts over?
No, it doesn’t make sense. Netanyahu’s Government is good at
massacring civilians, not so good at actually achieving any military objectives. From <
https://www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblog/2024/2/24/israels-war-on-gaza-live-unrwa-no-longer-functional-in-north-gaza>,
here is an attempt by an Israeli army chief to explain why they have
to keep fighting in areas they “control”:
Herzi Halevi ... spoke in vague terms about why intense clashes
continue in northern and central Gaza, areas that Israel’s
military swept through in earlier days of the war during ground
operations.
“There are areas we have already been to, and we are returning
with better intelligence and making an achievement that is much
higher and much deeper, literally, even into the ground, as well
in hitting the enemy,” he said in a video address.
“There are places we passed through at a very high rate of combat,
and we are returning to places to purify space at a very, very
high level. These things bring another level of operatives,
another level of commanders, more destruction of infrastructure.”
Clear as mud? “Purify at a very, very high level ... returning with
better intelligence and making an achievement that is much higher and
much deeper”. As if they already “achieved” something when they first went in and destroyed those areas, that they have to come back and
destroy them some more.
It was clear from the beginning that Netanyahu will not be the one to
lead Israel to any kind of military “victory” in Gaza. I see that the protests by his own citizens against his conduct of the war are
getting more frequent and harder to suppress.
