And it's far easier to extort $5k from 2000 people than hit 10 millionaires for $1,000,000 each
because they have the legal resources to fight back.

They don't even have to fight, really. They just use their tax
accountants and CPA's to use the loopholes Congress GAVE to them.

    Fact!
I am against wealth distribution however the tax system should be equal for all.
Trump campaigned, partially on closing the loopholes that the wealthy use to avoid taxes and as far
as I am aware he failed at this.

If Trump had declared that the sky was blue the Dem
legislature would have passed a resolution to declare
    it was green ....

So, don't blame Trump for THIS.

And anyone can see this for themselves by playing with numbers in a typical tax program.
Pretend you made 20 million and notice all of the options that appear. Offshore investments mostly.

Leave the tax system mostly alone and close the loopholes that corporations and the wealthy use and
    things will be better.

If you search the net you can find pix of tax forms
from around 1917 or so - less than a half-page. THAT
is worth reviving. No loopholes, no deductions, no
bullshit, just straight-up percentage. If you earned X
then you owe Y and that's that. The whole IRS could fit
into a vacant Denny's and wouldn't need armed squads.
The tax code probably fit on a 2-sided page.

The USA worked perfectly well with this for a LONG time.
    Prosperity, opportunity, confidence.

    Prosperity, opportunity, confidence.

    Greed has destroyed the country.

I've noticed something over the years, dunno if
it's particular to Americans or not ... it has to
do with resorting to, or exploiting, "technical
details" of laws/rules/regs. Some of Clinton's
remarks/defenses about Monica fell into this
    category .

Relative to taxes, the more "technical details"
you create the more, and more creatively, they
will be exploited. Now we have this gigantic
    tangled hairball NOBODY actually understands
but the larger players can ALWAYS find more
    advantage in.

The big players LIKE it that way - and the State
kind-of does too because, as Ayn Rand once mentioned,
it is in the interest of the State to make sure
everybody is (or thinks they are) guilty of something.

IMHO, back to 1917. A good MAGA POTUS and GOP-heavy
legislature COULD do that. But WOULD it ?

Just let me say this again:

He had the House, he had the Senate,

    and then

overhauled the tax code but in that overhaul

Somehow managed to not include the promised tax increase and thereby

failed to keep one of his most important promises. And you know full well the Dems would
have been perfectly happy raising taxes on the rich and cutting taxes on the working
    class.

Don't try to sell us anymore bullshit about Trump.
