SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Good Book is being treated like a
bad book in Utah after a parent frustrated by efforts to
ban materials from schools convinced a suburban district
that some Bible verses were too vulgar or violent for
    younger children.

And the Book of Mormon could be next.

    . . .

Utah ? Nope - Mormon will be exempt.

Anyway, I suppose fair is fair ... books full
of weirdo sex & violence stuff and exotic
ideologies ... ban one then ban ALL from the
      public schools.

IMHO, public schools should be mostly oriented
towards the proverbial "3-R's" with a dash of
'art & culture' thrown in. Skip the propaganda
and bullshit  - the goal is to turn out
COMPETENT people for the modern world ... ones
that can compete with our totalitarian opponents.

"STEM" is best. "Biz" a close second. "Rainbow
      Basket-Weaving" ... um ... no ... unless those
baskets can block ICBMs or disable enemy 'AI'
systems. The world remains highly dangerous.
1st-world tends to be oblivious to this 'cause
everything's so nice all the time. Sorry, that's
NOT normal in the world, NOT guarenteed.

BTW - the Chinese/Russians/Iranians/NK will put
the trannies/gays up against the wall, or worse.

    ITA with all that

Some years ago, scientific research revealed that
the human mind processes information in a manner
that was not consistent with Buddhist doctrine.
After some review, the Dali Lama said that the
research was credible and doctrine would have to
    be adjusted accordingly.

How often do you hear THAT from the other more
    'mainstream' religions ? :-)

MANY years ago I got annoyed with the resurgent
'creationists' and wrote a short letter to the
editor in a local newspaper saying that despite
claims of a Vast Global Scientific Konspiracy
things just weren't like they preferred to believe -
and they needed to adjust their theology a little
to fit the discovered facts. Nothing accusing or
condescending or insulting - Just The Facts.

This didn't get much traction, except from a few
claiming 'blasphemy'. However I did get a personal
letter from a relative - kinda in biological sciences -
who normally didn't communicate or affirm much and
was indeed a bit hostile, basically saying "Good Job !".
Unexpected. This was far more valuable to me than
anything the indignant creationists had to say.
    ----------------------------------

It's interesting to note that various christian religious
sects have been adjusting their theology continuously
for the last two millennia while at the same time claiming
their new theology is The Truth(TM).

Galileo and friends caused a LOT of trouble. The HRCC
had been basing much of its cosmology on Aristotle,
who, it turned out, didn't have it quite right. The
telescope also turned some of the "unknowable" into
    The Obvious. Uh Oh !!!

The interesting bit though was that the HRCC did not
charge Galileo with being WRONG ... just for speaking
out of place, about issues that were reserved to the
    clergy/theologians.

Oh well, large orgs are usually expert at 'spin' - just
listen to the WH Press Secretary sometime. The HRCC
adjusts its spin from time to time as required. NOT
    sure about the Islamic sector.

One sect recently declared that Limbo did not exist and
with the stroke of a pen dispensed with countless souls.
Ah, well. Easy come, easy go.

Shhhh ! You're not supposed to notice these things ...
