Woman with tuberculosis to be arrested this Friday and drugged
against her will after refusing treatment for a year — so is
it government overreach or fair enough?

A woman will be put in jail Friday for refusing treatment and
    isolation for TB

She has been positive for the bacterial infection for over a
    year, officials say

A Washington woman who has refused to isolate of receive
treatment for tuberculosis is set to be arrested Friday.

The unnamed patient — from Tacoma— has refused to isolate
or take medication since being diagnosed with the contagious
bacterial infection over a year ago.

    . . .

Few remember what a horror TB was. It's quite contagious
and eats away your lungs and other systems. Infection
was often called "The Consumption" for good reason.
That's a disease you can't just blow off and it has
a long LONG history to prove it isn't any 'conspiracy'.

Even worse, today's strains are now almost entirely
drug-resistant. Let it get around more and completely
    resistant strains are gonna appear.

Now question #1 ... forced medical treatment.

I'm gonna come down on the "NO" side here. That's
an incredibly slippery slope that can and has been
    badly abused.

    Question #2 ... forced isolation.

Here I'm gonna have to say "Yes". This woman is a
    modern-day Typhoid Mary, a walking bio-weapon, BY
HER OWN WILL. It cannot be allowed. Too dangerous.
Either take the cure or STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM
    OTHER PEOPLE.

We SHOULD have learned something from Covid ... that
there exists a "too slack" AND "too harsh" response
    to serious contagious diseases.

And tomorrow ... ? There MAY be a Human-2-Human variant
of the evil Bird Flu now. Tune in in a week or so ....
that virus could be much WORSE than Covid.

The ardent anti-maskers were mostly paranoids and/or
fanatic dumb-asses. By "ardent" I mean "against masks
under ALL circumstances, Just Because". It was "political".
The other, much larger, "anti" sentiment faction was more
practically oriented, no masks were reason says they will
serve little or no purpose. That was not "political",
    just sensible.

The "pro" side also had its own fanatics - unfortunately
a few to many of them were in influential public positions
and thus amplified the fanaticism of their opposite numbers.

Idiocy/fanaticism is EASY to create/amplify ... sensible takes
a LONG time to re-establish, usually after the damage is done.

I believe the rational on TB is well established.  Masking and
vaccination for Covid is just getting there and neither have stopped it.

TB is a horror that goes back to the edges of history.
They even find old old mummies with TB lesions on their
bones - some animals they find frozen in the permafrost
too. It's a BIG problem - twice as big now because of
the extreme drug resistance. It's survival trick is to
coat itself in a thick bubble of waxy goo that's
impermeable to almost everything. This slows down the
bacteria BUT also ensures its survival under all sane
    circumstances - a fair trade.

Just CANNOT let people go around coughing TB all over
    everyone.

Covid is more acutely contagious than TB. However it's
a 'quick' bug. It will mutate/evolve very quickly and
now it's reached a mostly harmless state in just a
few years. TB is the opposite - it's in it for the LONG
haul. People can be contagious for years, sometimes
decades, as they slowly rot away. This means TB gets
a LOT longer to spread around. Also, because it's a
"slow" disease it doesn't mutate into 'harmless'
varieties. There's no advantage to it.

Woman with tuberculosis to be arrested this Friday and

This has been part of public health law for a long time.

I listed my POV on the subject quite clearly - and I
    think     it's sane.

Just CAN'T have live TB cases wandering around. That
disease     has thousands of years of history fucking-up
    people and NOW     it's 99% drug-resistant.

If she doesn't want treatment, fine - but she CANNOT BE
WANDERING THE STREETS in that case. TOO dangerous to
        TOO many.

It was called "The Consumption" for an actual REASON.

Watch for the conservative "I have a right to
spread a fatal disease" anti maskers to step in
    on this one.............

Doubt it.  They generally believe in things that work.

The ardent anti-maskers were mostly paranoids and/or
fanatic dumb-asses. By "ardent" I mean "against masks
under ALL circumstances, Just Because". It was "political".
The other, much larger, "anti" sentiment faction was more
practically oriented, no masks were reason says they will
serve little or no purpose. That was not "political",
    just sensible.

The "pro" side also had its own fanatics - unfortunately
a few to many of them were in influential public positions
and thus amplified the fanaticism of their opposite numbers.

    Fanatical pro vaxxers?
