Planning on going to Iran. I know five days is much too short but it's all I've got at the moment. I'm fifty-ish but have extensive backpacker experience. Still fit. This time I'll be looking for reasonably levels of comfort and convenience, and would
like to take in a couple of notable landmarks.
Strong interest in Middle Eastern culture and have basic Arabic that I could brush up on. Sensitive to Muslim culture and customs.
Would welcome any suggestions and pointers.
Iran is actually not an Arabic country (they speak Farsi).
With five days you could visit Isfahan, Shiraz, Persepolis and
Pasargadae (if you are not scared by taking a flight within Iran). Fly IKA-Shiraz, then overland to Isfahan with stops in Persepolis and
Pasargadae. Then from Isfahan fly back to Tehran. Two days in Shiraz,
one for Shiraz-Isfahan (with the stops I mentioned) and two in Isfahan.
Another option: Kashan, Isfahan and Yazd (fly Tehran-Yazd, then overland Yazd-Isfahan and Isfahan-Kashan). From Kashan it should be about three
hours by car to IKA.
