if it happens to you. :)

but when it's over it Was funny watching "you" deal with it.

It was a dark night with no storm in sight

So, I"m "watering" the lawn Monday while standing on the concrete patio. The ground slopes significantly making the end near the tree line about 4" high (thick) from ground level.

I closed my eyes for about 15-20 seconds to adjust to the moonless night so the firefly show would be brighter against the darker sillouette of tree tops.

As I opened my eyes with several blinks something moved to my right at about one o'clock. Appeared to be the size of a cat. At that moment I realized I was surround by 5-6 of these figures. All about 8-10 feet away in a semi-circle

Within a half second of that realization another dark sillouette came into my limited night vision. OH FUCK!

It's Mrs Pepe LePew and her brood!

During the short time frame four of the little stinkers saw me and decided to check it out. In a matter of about 20-25 seconds it went from taking a whiz in the backyard to standing absolutely motionless praying mom wouldn't sense this human smell as
    danger.

Between holding my breath and pinching a piss in mid-stream I kind of got worried this was gonna take longer than I could hold either one.

Lost sight of Mrs. as my brain was screaming don't move and then I found her standing within 2 ft of me to my right. She walked by me and dropped the 4" end of patio onto the grass.

Mrs. LePew gave a slight gutteral sound and she and the brood eased on back to the tree line and turned left towards the neighbor about 200 yds thru the woods.

Thank you oh gawd of O' de Cologne.

I saw a Myth Buster episode where they wanted to test something to do with skunk spray. They did everything they could to provoke a spray with little results. I don't remember if or how they finally got sprayed but I remember they put the skunk in a
service station bathroom and provoked the hell out of it to no avail.
So... who knows what makes them spray. I've had them walk up on me in the woods at day break and like you they just walked away.

I was about 4 feet from one when we surprised each other. It started
stamping its feet and I ran about a 9 second 100.
