• What happens if SMU beats Tulane?

From JGibson@21:1/5 to All on Wed Nov 29 07:13:26 2023
Tulane is the Vegas favorite, but SMU is the favorite by several predictive computers (FPI, Dolphin Predictive, Sagarin Predictor).

If Liberty beats New Mexico State, will Liberty then be the final NY6 team or will they jump SMU over Liberty for that spot? I'm assuming if Liberty loses and SMU beats Tulane, that spot is definitely SMU's for the taking.

SMU's two losses are 28-11 to Oklahoma (a team in the top 12) and a 34-17 loss to TCU (finished 5-7, 3-6 9th place in the Bg 12).

It depends on how the Committee votes next week -- as of right now, you would also have to consider Toledo, who is also in the coaches' Top 25 , if Tulane and Liberty lose.

Liberty would be 13-0, and SMU would be 10-2. Maybe you can make a case for SMU having "better wins," but it's hard to balance out two losses, even if they were to Oklahoma and TCU.
