Hugo Lloris retires from the French national team.
Most capped keeper in World Cups. Most caps for France. Most capped French captain. World Cup and Nations League winner.
This is likely the end of MH's 1st cycle,
MH shouldn't be sad, though, as Lloris' heir is Maignan,

New temporary predictions (after the WC, compared to September):
But what I really really really hope is that, if I have to lose the podium, I won't lose it to Him-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named!
[checks the scores at the WC, has a stroke]
New temporary predictions (after the WC, compared to September):
Varane: current score 98, predicted final score 125.
What the algorithm cannot know:
"Équipe de France : Raphaël Varane va arrêter sa carrière internationale" https://www.leparisien.fr/sports/football/equipe-de-france-raphael-varane-va-arreter-sa-carriere-internationale-02-02-2023-CYTO7H4XYRCLVC4JDYDR2ANONM.php?xtor=AD-366
This means that I will lose the 2nd place in the 2nd cycle to Binder. I must now hope that neither Tom nor anyone lese manages to get me, or I will also lose the podium.
But what I really really really hope is that, if I have to lose the podium, I won't lose it to Him-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named!

Admittedly that would be nice, but unfortunately Walker is on his way out; and while it's true that Casemiro is an absolute stud who has singlehandedly turned Manchester United's fortunes around
he would need to score 70 more points for me to catch up. Not going to happen :-(
I finally got around to sending in new picks for cycle 8 a few weeks
back, but when I checked admittedly a few days back, they were not in
there yet.

Kane becomes the all-time leading scorer for England.
Argentinian born and raised Mateo Retegui scores on his debut for Italy. Bojan Krkic (who must have been one of the very first FS picks) announces his retirement.

Two Thurams on the bench for France. I wonder what the maximum number
of totals caps from members of the same family is (grandparents,
parents, offspring combined). Might not even come to as many as C. Ronaldo by himself.

This is likely the end of MH's 1st cycle, as (if I'm not wrong) Lloris is the only player of his who has scored points after 2019. MH is actually 2nd, and should be able to keep his place on the podium.
MH shouldn't be sad, though, as Lloris' heir is Maignan, picked by MH himself in the 6th cycle. Let's hope that after Maignan it will be Meslier's turn (or Areola's...), and not Lafont's!
