Anybody here? Snowed in? The SoCal snow is unbelievable.

I forgive Alterra for the sloppier grooming at their newly-acquired Snow
Valley resort. Previously the grooming was REALLY nice (not as nice as
Brian Head, but what is?), and then suddenly there were ridges between
passes. Still, I suspect that the huge (for us, anyway) quantity of
snow and low temps have compensated. Tuesday was the best day of the
season and I finally did Slide Peak. Probably won't do it again because
of the need to pole UP a bit to get to one of the lifts and to the lip.
I don't do up. Still, the uppishness may have been caused by the huge
quantity of snow. We'll see. This is the first year for quite a while
when there's a conflict between skiing and taxes.

Plus we got POPPIES! They started blooming around here in JANUARY, for Chrissake, and I didn't even plant my seeds until February. Kalifornia
is really lovely as long as you hold your nose when you think about our government.

Or Wednesday. Sometimes RL intrudes. A good day. This is only the
second time I've been able to ski SIX MONTHS OUT OF THE YEAR.

Alterra is going to raise the 'free ticket' limit next year st Snow
Valley from 70 to 80 (like Big Bear) and raise the 'get a pass, don't
stand in the line' price from $25 to $29. Big Bear dropped the senior
discount passes several years ago, so those will probably disappear too.
I'll probably buy the $29 ticket next year -- I owe them something!

It's been a lot more crowded this year. The amount of snow wouldn't
seem to make that much difference at Snow Valley, with the exception of
Slide Peak which wasn't open at all last year and maybe even the year
before. Maybe the fact that it's been really cold. When it warms up
(like next week, probably) people start thinking about the beach -- even
when there's still plenty of snow late in the season, people just don't
show up. Maybe a few more weeks...
