Thank you Icom! I never win anything but I recently entered for their
bi-weekly Ham Nation drawings. I won this box of stuff and just found out I
won their grand prize drawing for a new ID-5100A! I already have one in the car, so this one will be on the desk next to my 7300.

    Nightmare with Eaton breakers..

    Posted: 17 Feb 2022 02:20 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/sv13fo/nightmare_with_eaton_breakers/

So I recently got my general license and some equipment to begin
    experimenting in HF.
I have a pretty small place so elected to see what I could do with an
indoor small transmitting loop. Been playing with ft8 at night and was able
to make contacts on 40m.. but wasnt ideal. Figured id try 20m instead
during the day to see how it would be.
Start to xmit at 5w on 20m.. my power goes out in 3 rooms. Realize the wife
was running the dryer.. flipped the three breakers that popped and waited
for dryer to finish. Try again.. same thing. Im like.. there isnt that much draw.. what the hell is happening?
Looked online and apparently it is common that Eaton brand afci breakers
will falsely break from some bands. Called Eaton and they are sending me
some others. Will have to see if I am comfortable enough installing myself.
I decided to try one more time but moving the antenna to the opposite side
of the house (before was maybe 10ft away from breaker box). Now maybe 30ft away. Same thing.. but this time one of the breakers is dead.
Super crappy. There are even vids of people standing near the box and
keying up on a baofeng and setting off all of the afci breakers.

Car Radio Focus / Beginner HAM

    Posted: 17 Feb 2022 09:52 AM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/suuthk/car_radio_focus_beginner_ham/

I’ve been using CB with a friend for the last year in my car and want to upgrade to longer distances, so I think it’s time for a HAM license.
What should I focus on to get going in the right direction with my goal
simply improving my car communications to start? Study/pass the technician exam?
Any suggestions on radios/antennas I might look towards?
My current car setup is just a Wilson 1000 Mag Mount and a Cobra 29LX

Kay Everett Calls DX - Missing Pages - Request for help!

    Posted: 17 Feb 2022 09:58 AM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/suuybq/kay_everett_calls_dx_missing_pages_request_for/

Hi, Internet Archive has a digital copy of Kay Everett Calls DX, but, their copy is missing 4 pages (2 physical pages). I would love to see this entry repaired for completeness.
Here is the Link to the IA copy of the book
The missing pages are:161-162 (part of an appendix that lists ham
slang)171-172 (part of an appendix that lists DX country codes)
If somebody were willing to take pictures of these 4 pages I would be happy
to try to do the effort to get that entry repaired, or, at least upload an addendum entry of the missing pages.
    Pretty please? Thanks!

(p.s. Kay Everett Calls CQ is also available to read on the Internet
    Archive) submitted by /u/Silent-Possibility23

Its time to retire the SignalStick from the chest right and relocate it to another radio. I just discovered the Disco32 Vest Mounted Antenna and the Caattail RTO. Really only interested in 2m/70cm, but those I mentioned seem
to be usable to 30MHz. https://www.disco32.com/collections/antennas/products/vest-mounted-antenna-system-quick-detach-bnc

Idea for a ham radio geocache

    Posted: 16 Feb 2022 11:00 AM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/su3h8e/idea_for_a_ham_radio_geocache/

Last night I was thinking about cool ideas for remote beacons. It occurred
to me that park authorities (at least in Alberta, Canada) seem to be more lenient about geocaches than, say, antenna structures. As someone who does geocaching and amateur radio, I think mixing the two could be quite fun!
Get a geocache permit, adhere to the size restrictions and put a ham radio beacon nearby! That way the governments happy, and I could put a radio on
    the side of a mountain.
Assuming I could still meet whatever space restrictions Im given, my ideal setup would be: QRP AM/SSB/CW Beacon SSTV with a Raspberry Pi and HT LoRa and/or LoRaWAN Meshtastic node
This is still kind of a pipe dream, but Im going to look into getting the requisite permits (perhaps I can find a business or fire lookout whod lend
me the space) and hopefully make this a summer project.
Any thoughts or ideas? Let me know.

Has anyone been able to get NetLogger to work on the ARM64 Raspberry Pi OS.
The software hasnt been updated since 2018 and the tar installer seems to
work but the program fails to launch. The deb is for the wrong
architecture. I submitted a support ticket.
Id like to use it for a net but Im starting to think its abandonware. The
    forum has nothing on it.
Does anyone know of a replacement with similar capabilities?
Edit: NetLogger got back to me so Ill add this to prevent anyone else from wasting their time. NetLogger wont run on ARM and they have no intention of making it so that it does - no Android, Chromebook, etc, etc.

I am slowly but steadily getting back into the hobby- for now I have my end
fed coming into my master bedroom. Its working but can only have 1 radio on
my nightstand at a time and its getting unwieldy. I do have 1 front room
that would be perfect as it is the closest and is already my "computer
room". But its still going to take about 100 ft of coax so rg58 is out. Do
any of you do this and if so what coax do you use ? 1 hf rig is 100watts
and the other is only 10 watts so concerned about loss. Thanks. submitted

I bought a rigblaster to hook to my yeasu 857d. I would like to try some digital modes like FT8. The rigblaster came with a cable that hooks into
the mic on my radio. My question is, if I buy the optional cable to hook
the rigblaster to the CAT control on the radio will that take the place of
the cable going into the microphone jack? Or will I have to use both?

I just logged an FT8 QSO with a station and no information showed up in QRZ

I thought that was weird so I searched the callsign and was greeted with callsign not found. It was FT8 so I have the opportunity to confirm I

    Car mount Chameleon MPAS 2...

    Posted: 16 Feb 2022 06:04 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/sucz49/car_mount_chameleon_mpas_2/

Ive never done an HF mounted antenna in the past, just v/uhf, OH and NOT
    for mobile use.
I have a Honda pilot and the roof rack cross bars and mounts are far too
big, there is no real metal on the back. Im thinking for ease of use, doing
a 3/4 antenna mount on the hood. Maybe run an extra ground strap from hood
into the engine bay, run the coax into the body of the car if I use a
    hamstick or something.
Pull up to a spot, screw the MPAS (Or hamstick) in and play radio. If the
mount is properly grounded to the hood, that should be enough metal right?
Hmm, now that I type this, probably wouldnt want to sit 3 feet from the antenna, but I mostly use a 705, maybe still sit in the back seat.
Just trying to have fewer things laying on the ground and getting lazy in
    my older age.
Thank you for your thoughts. submitted by /u/toomanyhobbies4me
