Which reminds me of a famous quip
by Oscar Wilde, who once boasted he
could make a speech in an instant on
any subject... Someone called out
"The Queen!"

Beethoven marches confidently, heroically, to his goal. In this piece, Schubert feels his way along blindly, timidly, towards something uncertain.
Wonderful the pulse in the left hand in the first movement, a heart beat, it starts about 90 secs in and just continues on and on -- organic, the heartbeat of the groping uncertain traveller. Similar things happen sometimes in Sciarrino's music.
