Good to see you Steve hope you are back to full fitness very soon

Now to "The Sopranos".....who have NEVER been off our screens on this side of the puddle since the program first aired. As soon as they get to the last episode the retro channel that's their current home starts the whole wonderful thing all over again

Absolutely my pick as the best ever US TV series

Whoa....is there a TV series from somewhere else that you would rank above The Sopranos?

I'd rate the BBC "Quatermass And The Pit" as best TV show ever--but that was a 6 part weekly serial as opposed to a multi-season TV series.

So as far as true "TV series" goes----"The Sopranos" rules!!

It wouldn't make my top 10. Waaay too much psychobabble.

I really enjoyed the mob parts, but about 2/3 of the screentime by the end of its run was psychobabble. Dr. Melfie, Carmela and the like were annoying.

My favorite TV show ever is "The Wire."

In a TV series, nobody could be more annoying than Granny in
The Beverly Hillbillies. In stark contrast, I much enjoyed and admired
    the role of Jed Clampett.

    -----------
I've never seen it, but based on his performance in "Boardwalk Empire,"
I would say the late Michael Kenneth Williams was a tremendous actor.
It was a great pleasure to watch him.

20-25 years ago during the first run of "The Sopranos," there was a
usenet group devoted to it. Its name started with alt.tv, IIRC. A lot
of the people posting there shared your opinion, which they expressed
with the phrase "More whacking, less yakking!"

I personally liked watching Carmela. She was a materialist and a
hypocrite and yet somehow still seemed vulnerable. I agree with you
about Dr. Melfi, though. Still using disproven Freudian theory in the
21st century? That often made me cringe.

I just looked up Michael Kenneth Williams and see that he portrayed one of my favorite characters from the series, Omar, the gay Robin Hood who stole from the gangs.
It made me reflect on the astounding cast of the Wire, from the large to the small parts. Omar was among the best, but there was Idris Elba in one of his earlier roles and the actress who played Snoop, to my mind the greatest villain ever. Almost
    everyone was memorable.

It's available from many streaming services and I recommend it to everyone.

One can watch The Wire in the UK on Sky TV Box Sets or Now TV
Entertainment Pass. The Entertainment Pass costs £9.99 per month and
    comes with a one-week trial.

Never actually been in those wooded areas, it's far from here too.

Sure, That's the one where Bobby "pondered" the hunchback of Notre Dame and the quarterback of Notre Dame.
