Hot Dog - Pico Pete
Released a month after the original Corky Jones (aka Buck Owens)
version came this more amateurish sounding version from one Pico Pete
on Jet label. I rate the Jones version best but both get a good 7..
For some years now there has been some debate over whether Pete here
is white or black
Morse Code - Don Woody
Make Like A Rock And Roll - Don Woody
I never really warmed to Don Woody much tho his best known track
"You're Barking Up The Wrong Tree" was a HUGE seller for Moondog's
back in the day b/w "Bird Dog" (not the Everly song). Both those plus
the two unreleased tracks above were recorded in Nashville for Decca
21 December 1956. Musicians on the session unknown except the familiar
strains of one Grady Martin on guitar
Ray Pearl - Jivers
One of my favorite 1950's R&B vocal group records. Hailing from L.A
the five-man Jivers only ever had the two records out on Aladdin and
both are excellent. And whatdya know---we got BOTH of them released
here on Vogue label and both remain super-rare!
Duck Tail - Joe Clay
As mentioned the other day this is my favorite version of the song
over the Rudy Grayzell original
That Ain't Nothin' But Right - Mac Curtis
Here's my Mac Curtis favorites for 1956 in order
Grandaddy's Rockin' - 8
If I Had Me A Woman - 7
That Ain't Nothin' But Right - 7
You Ain't Treastin' Me Right - 7
Thast last one was Mac's only release here in UK in the 50's appearing
on a very pre-Beatles Parlophone label release in early 1957. It is
now one of the very rarest of UK issue rock 'n' roll singles fetching
four figure sums on e-Bay betc. And reminding me that I once sold a
copy for 25GBP many, many years ago.
Still keeps me awake nights :-(
Tear It Up (Live on Freed TV Show) - Johnny Burnette Trio
Couldn't find this one on YouTube but I see friend Larry has
rectifiied that recently. Does anyone know if the actual TV footage
still exists and can be located anywhere?

Standing On The Corner - Four Lads
As I've mentioned before I have a secret liking for some Broadway show
tunes and this is one of the better ones. From the then-current show
"The Most Happy Fella"
Come Go With Me - Del-Vikings
Two "L's" there!! It's DELL-VIKINGS on this one
Fell in love with GREAT number first time I ever heard it on radio and
thats a love affair that has never waned. A definite 10 all day and
all night long
Plus one of the best sax breaks in ANY 50's record IMO - courtesy Mr
Gene Upshaw
