But does anyone know if any of the Beatles ever did anything to encourage the rumor? While the Beatles were together I mean. I know John said 'Those freaks was right when they said you were dead.' (If they were right, why would he call them freaks??)
I ask because lots of people familiar with the rumor think it was a publicity stunt from within the Beatles organization.
