• Bob Weir On the Beatles' Last Formal Concert

From Norbert K@21:1/5 to All on Mon Jun 6 06:57:33 2022
"On Monday, August 26, 1966, at San Francisco's Candlestick Park, the Beatles gave their last formal concert. In front of 25,000 screaming fans, the Fab Four played twelve songs in thirty-three minutes on a stage erected near second base, protected by a
six-foot-high fence and 200 policemen. Incredibly, the Beatles' performance nightmare was not the exception but the norm. Although the stadium setting and army of coppers were unique to the Beatles, it was rare for any pop group of the day to do more
on a concert stage than dash through half an hour's worth of hits, most of them rendered totally inaudible by the mass shriek of a barely pubescent audience.

"Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir attended the Beatles' Candlestick Park show. 'I enjoyed it immensely,' he says, 'but it was pretty different from what we were doing. The music was great, but the form it took pretty much precluded the possibility of
    people listening to it.'"

And being a spectator at a rock concert is Bob Weir's best role!!

He said that the Beatles were different than what he was doing! You're right, Bob.
The Beatles didn't suck..........you did and still do, baby!!

I couldn't agree more. The Beatles were "pretty different from what [the Dead] were doing"? He couldn't have paid them a higher compliment. The Beatles could play their instruments. They could keep time. They could write songs. All of these
activities are indeed pretty different from amorphous, interminable dope jams.
