We were here for Ian. It was exciting.
As Wayne said 44" of water in my living room. We also took the NW
corner of the hurricane but the wind didn't really cause many
problems. Lots of trees down but they didn't hit anything. The wind
did take out about 35 screen panels from my cage. I can live with
that. The water was a real bitch tho. I picked up some stuff but not
near enough. NOAA was saying 5-7 foot surge. It was more like 15 based
on the FEMA datum plane (whatever that is). Houses built to the
current 14' code got wet. I am supposed to be at 11 (finished floor)
and I got almost 4 feet. The flood took what you would expect. My wife
wanted new furniture anyway. The cabinets I built survived but store
bought cabinets have too much particle board in them to take much
water. The TVs mounted on the wall were OK but I still lost 3. (a 55,
a 40 and a small one I was using as a monitor). The only appliances to survive was the beer fridge and an Ninja air fryer. My addition came
through unscathed. No drywall and no Romex. I am surprised at the
tools that survived. My table saw still works, the brad nailer works
and the air compressor works so I am building drawers and stuff for
the cabinets I can use. We will be replacing them eventually but I
need storage now.
Things are going slow because it is just me doing this shit.
We lost all 3 vehicles but the boat was OK. I had it tied out on the
canal and it was fine.
I was also amazed that I got the generator going the day after the
storm. It was under 2 feet of salt water.
I took the plug out, squirted WD40 in there and pulled it through a
few times. WD40 in the crank case then 2 oil changes and it ran for 5
days straight until FPL came back on line. I was running on propane so
it never stopped.
I still have plenty to do but I am making progress.

Good to hear that you, Judy and the dog got through it.
Things still messy in pockets of this province more than 3 weeks after Fiona. >Some still don't have power but they say it's mostly isolated individuals with trees or masts down on private property.

Good to hear that the only damage is stuff that you can replace. The
really important things that can't be replaced are still there. Good
luck in getting things back to some semblance of normal.

FPL and their partners did a good job on the power here. They were up
Sunday night after a Wednesday storm and this place was devastated.
The Co-op where Wayne lives had more problems but I heard it was
because they didn't take all the help they were offered.
