Planned Parenthood will become a travel agency.
I suspect some states will cash in too. I can see sending your
daughter off to "Bible Camp Weekend" or something (whatever it takes
to satisfy your neighbors) and along the way she loses the baby.
A nice weekend in Tahoe might appeal to someone in trouble in Arizona
or Texas. If your employer and PP are footing the bill, why not?
For the employer, it is a whole lot cheaper than 8 weeks of paid
maternity leave and 18 years of family emergencies..

No doubt. The affluent and well connected have always been able to get abortions for their daughters. The problem lies elsewhere with people who can't afford all that. And as you have pointed out, society will ultimately pay for the upbringing of
    their accidental children.

Dropping Dobbs a day after NYR&PA certainly got the gun thing off the
front page pretty fast. There are still a few gun grabbers out there
saying "But what about me". Unfortunately for them, the tear gas is
all being shot at abortion protestors right now and that is all
    CNN/NBC wants to cover.
I wonder if the cops will shoot one of them?

I am still chewing my way through the decision but it appears Alito +4
wrote his based on the wording of the Constitution with lots of
references to prior cases on point and the laws of the several states
    that address this.

Roberts wrote a separate opinion where he basically says Alito's
analysis is probably right but he still doesn't like throwing out Roe.
He does go into excruciating detail about "Viability" and questioning
if that kind of question even belongs before the court. He said that
is what regulatory agencies are for, sort of throwing a bone to guys
like me who say FDA could write something about this in the CFR
    without even going to Congress.
Then he points out Mississippi pretty much demanded a complete
reversal of Roe when the issue was really viability and removing that
    language.
He was unhappy that they rolled over.
"Here, there is a clear path to deciding this case correctly
without overruling Roe all the way down to the studs: rec-
ognize that the viability line must be discarded, as the ma-
jority rightly does, and leave for another day whether to re-
ject any right to an abortion at all."

"The Court’s decision to overrule Roe and Casey is a seri-
ous jolt to the legal system—regardless of how you view
those cases. A narrower decision rejecting the misguided
viability line would be markedly less unsettling, and noth-
ing more is needed to decide this case".

It is true that Roe never actually conveyed the "right" to an abortion
so that wasn't litigated. Maybe that is where the DNC dominated
legislature should go, while they still have a half a chance but I am
sure it would die in the senate anyway. Obama had the chance when he
had a lock on the congress but he whiffed. It could have been buried
in ACA that the GOP never had a chance of defeating.

The dissent from Breyer, Sotomayor and Kagan
reads more like a rant on The View.
There is far more emotional hand wringing than simply the SCOTUS
addressing the underlying language in the Roe decision or the various
state laws and making a legal decision based on the law.

An interesting follow up would be for the court to tell the FEDERAL
government to stay out of marriage. Could be tossed on a couple points. Fed’s were not involved in marriage until the late 1800’s, when a Religious based law was passed. The Fed’s only got involved when Morrill of Vermont introduced the Morrill Act because of his hate for Mormons. Before that
was states defined marriage in their areas. And the Territories had no
laws regarding marriage. SCOTUS would then be hero’s to the LGBT people.

The GOVERNMENT should not be involved in marriage, federal state or
local. Marriage is between you and your spouse witnessed by your
family, your friends and your God. No licenses, no taxes.
Then there is the legal civil union that is simple contract law and
should be available to any two or more adults. You are accepting joint
and several liabilities and obligations mostly.
At that point the "marriage license" becomes what it really is, a fee
for filing a document in the court to enforce those liabilities and obligations. Same as filing your HOA altered deed.

Perhaps the addtion of problems in getting an abortion will have folks tlhinking less of unprotected sex and more of contraception in the
first place. And, don't forget the morning after and abortion pills
    which are still available.

There are lots of alternatives to abortion.

CNN had a young, single, black girl with three kids bemoaning the
fact that she missed the cutoff on the last kid. She seemed quite
intelligent, so I wondered why she didn't take the morning after pill,

I have to admit I didn't feel sorry for her.

    Sounds pretty racist to me!

I'd rather spend my tax dollars there than on the illegal aliens your
president is imiporting to add democrat voters!

Based on FAIR’s most recent comprehensive fiscal cost study, illegal

    past year.

No doubt. The affluent and well connected have always been able to get abortions for their daughters. The problem lies elsewhere with people who can't afford all that. And as you have pointed out, society will ultimately pay for the upbringing of
    their accidental children.
Perhaps the addtion of problems in getting an abortion will have folks
tlhinking less of unprotected sex and more of contraception in the
first place. And, don't forget the morning after and abortion pills
    which are still available.

There are lots of alternatives to abortion.

CNN had a young, single, black girl with three kids bemoaning the
fact that she missed the cutoff on the last kid. She seemed quite
intelligent, so I wondered why she didn't take the morning after pill,
or proctice birth control, or take the abortion pill in the first
    place.

I have to admit I didn't feel sorry for her.

    ===

You and the rest of society will end up paying for her and the kids, probably for the rest of their lives. What's your remedy for that?

    Sounds pretty racist to me!

I'd rather spend my tax dollars there than on the illegal aliens your president is imiporting to add democrat voters!

Based on FAIR’s most recent comprehensive fiscal cost study, illegal
aliens are likely imposing a net fiscal burden of at least $143.1
billion.[1] That’s an increase of approximately $9.4 billion over the
    past year.

If abortions have become a "right" and pretty

I wonder what the market play is to cash in on the abortion travel
industry? If the democrats get their way it will be government
subsidized so somebody is going to get rich. Nothing is more expensive
    than something that is "free".

A growing number of major corporations have announced that they will
pay travel costs and, in some cases, the cost of the abortion itself
to employees who want to get one.

In the long run it's less expensive to the company
than having to pay for maternity leave and child care expenses.

Southern California a few years ago, when Sanchez got elected. They were
not illegal when voting, but illegal when they registered. Became citizens
on Election Day and then bussed to the polls. Maybe if you had to show ID
when voting, just like at the doctors, the DMV, airplanes, would be less illegals and dead people voting.

daughter off to "Bible Camp Weekend" or something (whatever it takes
to satisfy your neighbors) and along the way she loses the baby.
A nice weekend in Tahoe might appeal to someone in trouble in Arizona
or Texas. If your employer and PP are footing the bill, why not?
For the employer, it is a whole lot cheaper than 8 weeks of paid

No doubt. The affluent and well connected have always been able to get
abortions for their daughters. The problem lies elsewhere with people
who can't afford all that. And as you have pointed out, society will
ultimately pay for the upbringing of their accidental children.

The court did not say abortion was illegal, just that it was not a Federal item.

    Sounds pretty racist to me!

I'd rather spend my tax dollars there than on the illegal aliens your
president is imiporting to add democrat voters!

Based on FAIR’s most recent comprehensive fiscal cost study, illegal
aliens are likely imposing a net fiscal burden of at least $143.1
billion.[1] That’s an increase of approximately $9.4 billion over the
    past year.

    https://www.fairus.org/issue/illegal-immigration/2021-update-how-many-illegal-aliens-live-united-states

Where are the "illegal aliens" voting in presidential elections? I'm
aware some nutcase right-wing sites have made claims of such, but aside
    from those...?

Actually our little podunk TV station had no problem doing that.

Look at nbs-2.com The story is probably still there. They have women
on camera admitting they registered at Motor Voter and they are not
citizens. That's pretty much a slam dunk and it is a tiny sample of
voters who may not be citizens. Motor voter makes it easy.
NBC-2 just matched voter registration data to people who rejected jury
duty because they weren't citizens. That is a pretty small sample.
They still got some. Imagine what would happen if you took a deep dive
    into registered voters.
I'm just a data guy but I bet I find plenty of questionable voters if
you let me probe the database. (Aliens, felons, fake IDs, dead people
    etc)

The court did not say abortion was illegal, just that it was not a Federal >item.

Read Dobbs. They really just said the idea that "privacy" was a right
was not constitutionally supported and that the "weeks" clause in Roe
was unenforceable and not supported by legal precedent.
They dared the legislature to say something about "rights" and I bet
    this ain't over.

I agree in 1973, we really thought we had a right to privacy but in
2022, we had given that up. The Patriot Act and some court decisions
have stripped your privacy from the government and we embrace an
internet business model based on collecting private information about
you and selling it. I am not shocked that privacy was not enough to
    uphold Roe.

No doubt. The affluent and well connected have always been able to

Maybe the increased cost of getting an abortion out of state will

No it will just add to the overall cost of health care.

Certainly the ones affected by these laws. If you are well off, you
can fly to a more progressive state or just get your doctor to perform
some necessary medical procedure and "oops you lost your baby".
Rich women never had a problem terminating a pregnancy.

Kids are profit items to some women. The more kids the more money
they get from the government. The government loves to incentivize

You and the rest of society will end up paying for her and the kids, probably for the rest of their lives. What's your remedy for that?

"Force a 15 year old to have a baby, you destroy 2 lives."
    -GF years ago.

Who's doing the forcing? There are many alternatives for a 15
    year-old.

Not in Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana and the other 10 states that
passed trigger laws in anticipation of Roe getting tossed.

There are still many alternatives to abortion. Let's get Planned
Parenthood back in the business of *planning* parenthood.

That list is pretty short in Tupelo Mississippi if you are knocked up
and too poor to raise a<nother> baby.
Yeah "shoulda" "coulda" "woulda" is easy for an old white guy in
Northern Virginia but the world is full of people who fuck up. You
    want them to reproduce.
BTW "5 weeks" is ridiculous. Most women don't even know they are
pregnant by then and tests may still come back negative if they are.
Then they might wait 3 more weeks to be sure. (2 missed periods).
If I were a promiscuous young lady and lived in Mississippi, I'd be
looking into contraception. It's not like planned parenthood places
    are hard to find:

As would anyone else who is coming from a comfortable, educated, middle class background. The typical abortion seeker is none of that.

Gosh, maybe the uncomfortable, union-educated, lower class folks will
    learn something about birth control!!

I bet you are a careful driver but you still carry insurance don't you
because, no matter how careful you are, shit happens

Kids are profit items to some women. The more kids the more money
they get from the government. The government loves to incentivize
folks to do the wrong thing.

It is interesting that the same people who want to force these
pregnancies to go to term have no interest in supporting the welfare
    programs that feed them.
I would like to limit both.

For the employer, it is a whole lot cheaper than 8 weeks of paid
maternity leave and 18 years of family emergencies..

No doubt. The affluent and well connected have always been able to get abortions for their daughters. The problem lies elsewhere with people who can't afford all that. And as you have pointed out, society will ultimately pay for the
    upbringing of their accidental children.
Perhaps the addtion of problems in getting an abortion will have folks
tlhinking less of unprotected sex and more of contraception in the
first place. And, don't forget the morning after and abortion pills
    which are still available.

There are lots of alternatives to abortion.

You and the rest of society will end up paying for her and the kids, probably for the rest of their lives. What's your remedy for that?

"Force a 15 year old to have a baby, you destroy 2 lives."
    -GF years ago.

Who's doing the forcing? There are many alternatives for a 15
    year-old.

Not in Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana and the other 10 states that >>>>> >>>passed trigger laws in anticipation of Roe getting tossed.

There are still many alternatives to abortion. Let's get Planned
Parenthood back in the business of *planning* parenthood.

That list is pretty short in Tupelo Mississippi if you are knocked up >>>>> >and too poor to raise a<nother> baby.
Yeah "shoulda" "coulda" "woulda" is easy for an old white guy in
Northern Virginia but the world is full of people who fuck up. You
    want them to reproduce.
BTW "5 weeks" is ridiculous. Most women don't even know they are

If I were a promiscuous young lady and lived in Mississippi, I'd be
looking into contraception. It's not like planned parenthood places
    are hard to find:

    https://www.yellowpages.com/tupelo-ms/planned-parenthood

    ===

As would anyone else who is coming from a comfortable, educated, middle class background. The typical abortion seeker is none of that.

Gosh, maybe the uncomfortable, union-educated, lower class folks will >>>learn something about birth control!!

I bet you are a careful driver but you still carry insurance don't you >>because, no matter how careful you are, shit happens

If they've taken advantage of all the birth control methods and the
shit still happens, then they'll have to get boyfriend to drive them
to the nearest abortion facility. They can also vote to get the
abortion laws changed in their state.

We do agree here and the vote thing is the bad part of this situation.
The GOP may have just snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

I agree but if it is a right, the 14th amendment supersedes the state,
like riding in the front of a bus and Roberts pointed out, this should
have been dealt with by the legislature but congress is trying to stay
    neutral on it.
Congress could pass legislation granting this as a right and the
    states would have to comply.
One act of congress fixed that bus thing, lunch counters and all sorts
of stuff without amending the constitution.
