The bit about riding sleepless interested me. Way back in the day, one
of my best century rides ever came after a very fun night in a pub with friends, drinking beer and listening to an excellent musician until
after closing time. I went to bed at something like 3 AM and rose at something like 6:30 to get to the start of the century. I had a great
ride and finished with a long sprint.
Could sleeplessness be an advantage?
One night of sleeplessness probably didn't hurt /help one way or the
other. It's all about prep and fitness. Certainly, a few sleepless
nights in a row would contribute to exhaustion, and remember these
riders - especially Visma team riders - have quite literally the best
sports medical team in the business. The team leaders physiology is
monitored daily to track and maintain proper balance for each specific
athlete (based on preseason performance metrics - blood analysis,
hormone responses, etc - not every rider responds the same way to a
specific diet).

Besides that, your sleepless night wasn't a result of anxiety about the
ride the next day.
