Out of curiousity I searched Mike Vandeman's name.
He seemed to disappear from Usenet around 2010.
But I did find him here, responding to an article. By the arguements he posts it *has* to be him! Wowza.

Any thoughts?

MIke Vandeman is a crackpot. He is not susceptible to reasonable argument. I gave up on him when I learned he was a typical California leftist who
favored immigration from south of the border even though he professes
concern about the environment. His left hand does not know what his right hand is doing. Usenet is well rid of him.

Usenet today is not what it used to be. I am only here to make life
miserable for Mike Vandeman should he ever show up again on RBS. But I
think he is gone for good.
Vandeman, liked a stopped clock, was right about a few things, but he was
never consistent about anything. I cut him a lot of slack because of a
few of his pet issues with which I agreed, but eventually I realized he
had a one track mind. He was not only a crackpot, but a crank too. Such
people are extremely tiresome because you can never have a real
conversation with them. All they ever do is just spin, spin, spin! He
thought you could reform those coming to this country from south of the
border to be good environmentalists. I realized at that point that he was
nuts! He was indefatigable, but I was more indefatigable.
Between the two of us we pretty much destroyed RBS as a working
newsgroup. But I think Usenet was already dying. It was exciting when it
was new, but it seems like it is now dead. Usenet always needed monitors
which it never had. Frankly, I was not sorry to see it go.

It's been sold
The ranch was recently sold to Bill Brown, the founder of Walnut
Creek's Central Garden and Pet Company, as well as his foundation, the William Brown Foundation, according to Todd Renfrew, who brokered the
sale, which closed Monday.
