• Gordo kills it!

From Mark Mocho@21:1/5 to All on Tue Jun 20 06:51:54 2023
According to the SkySight FB page, Gordon Boettger completed a 17+ hour flight out of Minden, making 3,055 km. Haven't seen an OLC or WeGlide claim, but it should be awesome to analyze. Great job, Gordo!

    WOW - Fantastic flight!
According to WeGlide, it already took place in April and it took the crew 'only' 11h45min to finish. For that alone, they deserve the Iron-Butt award!

Great flight and terrific pictures! But I gotta ask - What's with the
thumb and little finger extended? I see it all the time but haven't any
idea if it actually means anything.

The sign is called the "shaka" and has origins in Hawaii. It was adopted by the surfing community and means something like "hang loose" or "right on" or any other friendly greeting.

3058 Kilometer party for Gordo and Bruce!
Wednesday, June 21, 5pm. Stay as long as you like. Overnight is ok, we'll turn off the sprinklers.
    Jim and Kathy Lee's at:
2458 Genoa Meadows Circle, Genoa, NV
See attached photo for parking locations or just wing it.

Everyone is invited! Bring a friend! Share the news! (Bring a chair). We can't think of everyone.
Beer, wine, champagne, Root Beer, appetizers and pizza provided. This is a glider pilot party after all.

Do you think that this past winter was epic? 60 feet of snow? No it wasn't. This is. Be there, or go flying. We'll understand.

The use of night vision goggles is taking this distance record a whole new direction. The world of soaring stopped recording endurance records for good reasons after someone used the trade winds and navy search lights during the night.
Even though the day Gordon flew was nearly the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, it was not enough to capture the record alone. Look for a shift in the rules coming soon.

Gordon did it safely with a two-man crew, allowing one of the pilots to rest while the other flew.
