Pre-season testing day 2 is done, the first race is next weekend and Drive to Survive S5 is out yet
no 2023 F1 discussion posts here?

I guess there's no new media releases about Steve McQueen movies, German video feeds or Le Mans...

This from Albert Fabrega on twatter:

Things that we are seeing so far in the test:
    - Red Bull is very strong
    - Ferrari is fast but degrades (tyres) a lot
    - Mercedes are not favorites
    - Aston Martin is doing well
    - Alpine has not shown anything
    - McLaren will need time
    - Williams has improved

FWIW I agree with all of that.

I would add that AR and AT have both improved considerably also (Hass hasn't going by what we've seen).

I'd put Williams and Aston at 4th and 5th with the top 3 order to be decided (but likely RB at the
top). Going by what has been seen, it's only testing etc. etc.

One of the problems in the UK is the cost of streaming F1 in 2023.

There are two viewing options, none 'cheap'.

    (1) NOW Sky Sports, currently at £34.99/month.. Almost identical to Sky
Sports on Sky (with Racing, Mix and News being part of this membership
    instead of Entertainment).

Then there’s NOW Boost, which currently costs an extra £6/month – and
adds Full HD (1080p) video quality, Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, no adverts
(for on-demand content. You’ll still see adverts on Sky’s live
channels), and the ability to stream on up to 3 devices at the same time (instead of just one). So £40.99/month.

    or...

NOW also offers a daily NOW Sports pass, for a one-off payment of
£11.98. Whether SD or HD is unclear. For 23 races that's ~£270.

    (2) Sky Stream costs £29/month, and the same plan, with the 18-month
contract, is £26/month. 31-day rolling contract which you can cancel at
any time without any penalty charges. .

Needs a Sky dongle with a “setup fee” of £39.95 for the rolling
contract, or £20 for the 18-month contract. Over £300 minimum.

Any of these are adding up to circa £300 or so...expensive.

BBC Radio 5 Live will probably carry live audio commentary, and
hopefully ITV will show highlights later.

I haven't seen any of the testing on TV, and it *is* only testing. Hard
for anyone who isn't a team insider to know how the timing sheets reveal anything. And even then...

I'm quite happy to wait for the first actual race weekend to start
deciding on favourites. In the meantime, there's still a winter to
survive. And other sports on TV to fill the viewing hours.

Yeah. A bit populist and lacking detail - one of their 10 things is "Alfa Romeo hasn’t got the
best-looking livery, it turns out" FFS!

They mentioned "Ferrari’s made some changes behind the scenes". *Some*? *Behind the scenes*? They
sacked their team principal *and* moved their lead strategist to a factory job. Also Fred Vassuer,
the new Ferrari Team Principle says that this year Charles doesn't go into the season as Number 1
driver. They will not be issuing team orders until and unless one driver is well ahead of the other
in points by the middle of the season. Those are all huge for Ferrari (and Carlos Sainz) and not
    exactly "behind the scenes".

I don't agree with some of the other 'things they learned' either but who cares? I'm just a
    long-time F1 watcher, they're a large media company.

The timing for the test seems really dumb. If a team finds anything major about the car there's no time at all to fix it or to just make the car better. Test should have been two weeks earlier at least. Better yet the cars should be pounding around
the track nearest the factory all off season.

Too many races, too little spectacle, not enough time.
