Yes 'bombed', 235 messages. Showed as new messages to download but my Thunderbird (or was is some other software) appears to have nixed them

    Thank you Geoff.

    So, you use "Thunderbird" also.
When my old program could no longer run (probably a
couple of years ago - ??) I started using Thunderbird.

All went well for a while. Now my 8 or so year old computer
has failed, I've gotten a Chromebook, and using Thunderbird
is 'possible' but seems at times untenable.

What kind of computer are you using?

    Win 10 PC(s) and laptop.

Thunderbird regularly appears to get something broken with updates, but
they get fixed quickly. But then often something different isn't quite
    right again...

I used to use Outlook Express, which did all I wanted (for USENET) just
fine and reliably. But then they did something to kill it.

Just have a peek around the interweb and found this - might give it a whirl: https://www.oeclassic.com/ar-outlook-express-windows-10

I've been autofiltering googlegroups postings for quite a while now. I
might be lysing some legitimate posts but I'm just glad that I didn't
get to see spam like that.

Yes, I'd used the old PINE, then Outlook Express.
Then that totally was unsupported and total fail.
    Yeah, they had "killed it".
So I tried Thunderbird, and all was fine for a couple (?)
    years.
Recently my 'tower' computer, Dell 780 went into failure.
Computer shops just advised to get a new computer.
    We got a Lenovo Chromebook.
Not easy, but you CAN load Thunderbird on it.
Then ????? perhaps an update ??? threw Thunderbird off.
Pain in the rear to reinstall.
If The discarding of Thunderbird is going to happen often,
I will have to go a different direction.
I will keep your experience of Win 10 PC(s) and laptop, in mind.

    Thank you again.

TBird is built for Windows, Mac, and Linux. It works on a Chromebook
because Chromebooks have a Linux disto running below decks, but rough
edges are to be expected there.

When it worked well - and it was never perfect, not even back then - it
was excellent. The problem is that not only has the volume dropped, but
the signal to noise ration gets no better, and it's been bad for a long
time. Just look at some of the notable timewasters on here.

    It's a shame, but it's dying a natural death.
