CNN Republican commentator Scott Jennings couldn’t contain his reaction when
a fellow panelist suggested that President Joe Biden had felt it necessary to pardon embattled son Hunter Biden because President-elect Donald Trump was “talking about firing squads.”

Social media host Leigh McGowan first made the argument that President Biden did when he offered his son a sweeping pardon — which covered any and all federal crimes, those charged and those potentially not yet uncovered, over
the course of 11 years — saying that his own Justice Department had somehow engaged in political prosecution targeting his son.

When Jennings made it clear that he was not buying that, McGowan pivoted to claim that Biden may have reasonably thought that his son was at risk — even physically.

“What the other side has been saying for years, what you guys ran on for president, is — was multiple lies,” McGowan began. “I mean, if Eric Holder
said it, right, he said if Hunter’s name was Joe Smith, this case would probably have never even gone to trial, right? That it was always a political witch hunt …”

Host Abby Phillip stopped her, noting that Jennings’ point had been that the Biden administration had lied when multiple people claimed dozens of times
that there was no plan for the president to pardon his son.

“Wasn’t it a lie? I mean, you can defend it, but wasn’t it a lie?” Phillip asked.

“No!” McGowan insisted. “I believe the circumstances have changed. We now
have a president coming into office who’s talking about firing squads, who’s talking about running people around the country and making sure everyone
who’s his enemy is going to be punished …”

Immediately after McGowan mentioned the “firing squads,” the camera panned to Jennings, whose exaggerated eye roll quickly — and for good reason — went viral.

“Jennings perfectly captures how we all feel listening to Leigh McGowan,” one posted.
