with all the hype about how great surveillance, like
all problems can be solved by ever more surveillance, here's
a case of the obvious: criminals using Security Technology
to commit crimes. We can consider this case as a subset
of what can be called Security Crime: crimes committed by,
or in the guise of, or using the tools of, Security.
The obvious is this, with all the crimes caused by
surveillance, how about renewing the subject of
COUNTER-surveillance, once considered a news-worthy subject?
As in the surveilled attacking the culprit? Can't there
be, and is there, technology that actually helps do that,
by and for the public, or is this the case where so many
Very Important People say that surveillance is a panacea for
all problems, so all public criticism of surveillance be
denounced, to maintain the status quo.
And what freaking advice the news says the cops gave here,
to call 911 whenever seeing suspicious behavior? That
cuts a wide swath, and so far I haven't called the police
everytime a solicitor comes a callin', or noticed
rudeness in people, as rudeness and arrogant behavior is
the most telling sign of a crime in progress that hasn't
been committed yet.
Is this the same police that say that burglary is a mere
property crime, unimportant, and not to worry about,
despite the inherent death threat committed by the act
of burglary, an assault that turns into a murder often enough?
