Dialog does not add X-Face header text AFAIK how.
What worked for me is this not intuitive process set steps.

Google "Online X-Face Converter"
"http://www.dairiki.org/xface/"
"Enter an X-Face to Display"
"Display X-Face"
"Save image as xface.gif"

Dialog does not add X-Face gif file AFAIK how.
Google "convert gif to bmp"
"https://www.irfanview.com/main_download_engl.htm"
"Irfanview xface.gif to xface.bmp"

Now back Dialog.
"Dialog:Settings"
"Servers/Identity settings"
"Identities"
"Message headers"
"X-Face*:"
"Load" xface.bmp

Works for me!

Can't you find an X-Face text to BMP converter instead of doing a XFace:
header text to GIF and then a GIF to BMP converter online?

Winface 1.51 reads and writes X-Face BMP & X-Face header text.
Input = X-Face text, Output = BMP
Input = BMP, Output = X-Face text

(1) Start winface 1.51 on Windows 10 (it comes up with sample x-face text)
(2) Paste just the xface text into the edit box (replace the existing text)

(3) Click the winface 1.51 "To Image" button
(4) Click the winface 1.51 "Save" button
(5) That will save the X-Face text as a BMP file
(6) Your 40tude dialog should be able to accept that bmp file
