  • Groups on INN

    Hello,

    I have an INN server up and running, have two feeds and messages are
    coming in. But only on groups that i manually created using "ctlinnd
    newgroup". Otherwise they get rejected, now i do not know if that's
    expected or if I'm missing some configuration. I read through the INN documentation, and couldn't find anything useful (might just be me being extremely tired.)

    If you're just getting started you will probably want to use the active and newsgroups file from https://ftp.isc.org/pub/usenet/CONFIG, or pull the active file from another server with the actsync utility.

    Out of the box you get a 'minimal' active file, just enough for the server to start, but otherwise group creation is up to each administrator. Most start by mirroring another server, or use the files provided at the ISC URL above and remove groups they do not wish to carry.

    Once you get to that point you will want to explore processing control
    messages to handle automatic newsgroup creation/removal, or choose to manually create/remove groups. See https://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/software/inn/docs/install.html#S15 as a starting point.
