For tax year 2020 (returns filed in 2021), we had an overpayment on the state income tax return. We chose to apply the entire overpayment to the next year.
Now it is almost Apr 2022, and I just realized that we never received a 2021 1099-G from the state for the "tax refund".
Shouldn't we?
Many states do not mail out the 1099-G. You have to access
it on the state's web site. Check your state's tax web site
and see what it says about how to get your 1099-G.
Of course, if you know how much the overpayment was, you
don't really need the 1099-G.
