I have a recollection of hearing that the age that Social Security
benefits continue to grow has changed from 70 to 72. But on the SSA
website it says it's still 70.
Did I misunderstand?

That's 42 USC 402(w) and it hasn't changed, still stops at 70.
Perhaps you're thinking of RMDs from retirement plans which were
changed from 70.5 to 72 by the SECURE act in 2019.
