I haven't used iTunes for many years but can't even get started to use for backup now.
I never see the device button, whatever I do.
Tried multiple PCs, all with the latest iTunes, various USB
cables, tried rebooting all devices, tried Win7 and Win11.
iphone SE3 which is fully up to date.

Did you try signing out and back in?

Did you try signing out and back in?
That fixed it, thanks for the quick fix.
It was a new installation on the Win11 laptop and it hadn't
asked me to login.
When I did, that then asked me to confirm that it was a login
on a new device and
after the iphone asked me to trust that connection, the device
button showed up.
