search for back tap within the settings app and it will take you to accessibility>touch>back tap

    Hi badgolferman,

This is an instance where nospam can actually provide value, which I
commend him for answering your question, which I presume wasn't a lie on nospam's part or you would have challenged his response (like Chris and Haemactylus did when nospam lied about iPad battery health status apps).

On older Androids (prior to about Android 11), this backtap functionality wasn't even native, so it's nice that iOS has it native on your devices.
    <https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=android+backtap>

I don't know who had it first, Android or iOS, but whoever did gets my
kudos because this is a case where a functionality is added when one
platform has it and the other doesn't (and then both end up having it).

Competition is a good thing for the consumer in that case.

Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap

I use it for the camera. A lot of users aren't even aware that this
exists since they never go into the Accessibility settings.

Back Tap is a great feature, and one that Android actually did copy.
It's standard on Google Pixel phones, called Quick Tap, and available on
newer Samsung Galaxy phones via an app from the Samsung App Store <https://galaxystore.samsung.com/detail/com.samsung.android.goodlock>.

BTW, you can also use Back Tap to open apps, but it's a little more
work. You have to create a shortcut for the App first.

I use two taps to open WhatsApp. Three taps is for the camera (no
    shortcut needed).

*Most functionality does _not_ come from Apple.*
    Nor from Google.

A critical concept adults need to comprehend is that most functionality (on either iOS or Android) comes from _developers_ creating that functionality.

With that in mind, Steve "thinks" backtap functionality was on iOS first,
and that may very well be the case in terms of being _native_ on iOS..

But it has been on Android for quite a while in the form of apps, some of
which I've tested thoroughly and which have tremendous power to do stuff.

For all we know, from the timing anyway, Apple could just as easily have
copied it from the Android developers, as Android copying from Apple.

Having Back Tap is one thing and saying it's on both Android & on iOS is another but doesn't the iOS Back Tap do more things than the Android ones?

I have it set for a triple tap to turn on the back light. With the
cover I use it's not esp. consistent - easier to swipe down.

There's a list of items you can "hook" a double or triple tap to - about
20 system and about 20 accessibility. A few apps (like Shazam) can also
    be hooked to it.

Yes and No. "Good Lock" has more capabilities than Back Tap but is only available on flagship Samsung devices. Quick Tap on Pixel has fewer capabilities than Back Tap.
