That guy SHOULD have been killed for fucking something that UGLY.
Three men and a woman involved the ambush-style, apparent love-
triangle killing of a Perris man in a San Juan Capistrano creek
bed were sentenced to prison Monday for their roles in the
slaying.
Brion Cairo Hyde — the 28-year-old alleged ringleader of the
2016 killing — pleaded guilty Monday morning to first-degree
murder for the slaying of 38-year-old Alvaro Rios and was
sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. Anjelica Marie Shibata,
34, Ashkan Dezhangfard, 28, and Siavash Hosseinaliarhani, 25,
were all sentenced Monday to 15 years to life in prison, after
pleading guilty late last week to second-degree murder.
A jury trial for the four defendants — who were accused of being
present for or taking part in the attack on Rios and leaving him
for dead — was on the verge of getting underway when they agreed
to the plea deals. Two other men — Ryan Timothy Huebner and
Myles Emmanuel Jones — previously admitted to their roles in the
fatal attack and pleaded guilty to a lesser count of voluntary
manslaughter.
Prosecutors previously said Rios, who was married, had a
romantic relationship with Shibata, who was living at the time
with Hyde in San Juan Capistrano.
The affair was apparently discovered and Shibata allegedly told
Hyde and the other defendants what prosecutors say was a false
claim that Rios had sexually assaulted her.
Shibata lured Rios to a creek bed in an abandoned area next to
the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Course, prosecutors previously said.
Rios was stabbed more than 20 times and his body was discovered
the next morning by a jogger.
During the sentencing hearing on Monday for Hyde, Shibata,
Dezhangfard and Hosseinaliarhani, emotional family members of
Rios remembered him as an “honest, true, hard-working” family
man who died after getting “caught up in a web of lies.”
“Justice is served today, but it doesn’t make a difference in
our hearts,” said Sara Aguilar, a relative of Rios.
Rios’ oldest daughter, Alyssa, described the pain of her father
missing her high school and college graduations, as well as her
upcoming wedding.
“He was taken from us, and that time will never come back,” the
daughter said.
Fermina Rios, an aunt of the victim, said Hyde made the choice
to bring along the other defendants, and they had the option to
stop the attack.
“They had no remorse, no consideration for anyone,” Rios said.
“They made their choices. This act they committed was an act of
mob mentality…”
“You have scarred our family, but you have not destroyed us,”
the aunt added.
All four defendants who were sentenced Monday were given credit
for the more than six years they have spent in county jail while
awaiting trial.
Along with his role in the Rios slaying, Hyde also admitted to
killing a fellow inmate — Kirk Price — in local lockup while
awaiting trial.
Price — who himself was awaiting trial for the 2016 shooting
death of a Tustin mixed martial arts gym owner — died in 2020
following a reported fight at the Theo Lacy Jail Facility in
Orange. Hyde on Monday pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter
in connection with Price’s death, and is scheduled to return to
court on Tuesday for sentencing in that case.
