• Looking for an advanced offline touch typing tutor

From Ottavio Caruso@21:1/5 to All on Mon Feb 20 12:20:01 2023
    Hi,

When I'm out and about and scrounging on somebody else's wifi, I use
keybr [1] and monkeytype [2] to improve my typing skills. The latter is
great. You can test on letters only, numbers only, advanced punctuation,
    all sorts of ASCII characters.

At home, I have no Internet (personal choice).

I've tried Klavaro, Gtypist and tipp10 but they all look too basic to me.

I need an offline tutor that supports multiple layouts and has also
    exercises on advanced characters.

Is there any such a thing?

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
    A: Top-posting.
Q: What is the most annoying thing in e-mail?

    Hello Ottavio,

    Recently,
    I've been thinking :
why does the space bar span 6 keys?
    should I try another layout?
    I heard dvorak was optimal.
What do you think about it?

    Best,

why does the space bar span 6 keys?

Because you chose a keyboard whose designers liked the number 6 for the
space bar. The one I currently use only spans 5 keys, I'm sure others
are shorter and yet others may be longer.

Thank you both for derailing the thread.

I used Klavaro myself, it was sufficient for my needs. See https://www.ubuntupit.com/best-typing-tutor-software-for-linux-to-increase-your-typing-skill/ for some tips, maybe one of them will do.

Also, there are typing games: https://blends.debian.org/games/tasks/typing

The space originated as two keys, one on each side of the typewriter.
When it was implemented, the designers decided to join the two keys
    into a bar.
