• Bookworm upgrade to 5.26.90 resulted in a huge App Launcher icon size

From local10@21:1/5 to All on Wed Feb 1 07:50:01 2023
    Hi,

The latest Bookworm upgrade to 5.26.90 [1] resulted in the Application Launcher widget's icon becoming a huge, ridiculous size[2]. It's now about 10 times larger than what it used to be before the upgrade and, respectively, takes 10x times more space on
    the task bar.

    I tried, without success:

      1. Removing the App Launcher from the Task Bar and then adding it back again   2. Changing the App Launcher icon to another icon (it was also huge ) and then reverting back to the default
      3. Logging out of KDE and then logging back in again

    Any ideas? Thanks

    2. Look at the very bottom of the image, the App Launcher icon is now about 10 times larger than what it used to be.

AFAIR there was some upstream change regarding the application launcher
widget icon. I believe I have read about it in some Plasma update blog
    posts from Nate Graham.

It became larger here too, not 10 times, but visibly, especially the
space around it. There is a needless large space around it.

    Any ideas? Thanks

I suggest you to look for an upstream bug report at https://bugs.kde.org
and if there is not one already reported, report it. In case upstream
fixes this timely, it probably can be patched in the Debian package for Bookworm still.

Strange, we've not seem that elsewhere (yet ?).

Can you confirm that you have no more plasma packages installed with the old version ? (5.26.5)

Also if you have time you may search the KDE bugtracker for issues raised against version 5.26.90 and report if you find something similar.

    Thanks,

I'm on 5.26.90 and mine looks normal. Have you tried creating a new user account to see if it works properly?

It may depend whether control panel is horizontal or vertical. I believe vertical ones to be affected.

    # aptitude search "?any-version(5.26)"
    p   libkrb5-26-heimdal                                                                                               - Heimdal Kerberos - libraries

Filed a bug ( https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465107 ) in case if someone wants to follow it.

My solution was to replace the Application Launcher widget with the Application Menu, where the icon still has a resonable size.

I also been affected by this, launcher icon ridiculous size, I use
vertical panel with size of 256 and that icon was stretched fully to
that size. Switched to Application Menu like you, thanks.
