• Kadressbook and Google

From Helge Reimer@21:1/5 to All on Mon May 6 17:00:01 2024
    Hello,

I know it is a known problem that Kadressbook or Akonadi does not currently synchronize with Google Contacts.
According to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446580 it should work again with 'LibKGAPI' from version 23.04.0.
In Debian, 'LibKGAPI'' is included in 'libkpimgapi-data', but for sid only in version 22.12.3-1.
Is there a possibility to get a newer version for Debian?
What else is currently the best way to use Google Contacts in KDE?

No one uses Google Contacts with KDE?

If anybody - I don't know, but for me: Why schould I knowingly /
willingly feed the Data Monster with my address book?
The Data Monster already gleans so much information off my every single
    online activity.
    Have a nice day

On a note about Re: Sv: and so on "feature" of MS email clients.
Re: is not a short for "Reply" as MS seems to think.
A re (the ablative of res 'thing') has been used in English
since the 18th century to mean 'in the matter of', 'referring to'.

And how else do you sync your contacts between your smartphone and KDE for free?
I'm definitely open to good suggestions.

"kdeconnect" [1] (link to the website, but packaged in Debian) works
great for me, it has an option to sync contacts and much more, but you
can choose exactly which fonctions to enable and which permissions to
grant. Works between Android/Lineage and linux, and despite the name it
is not restricted to KDE desktop.
Automatic contacts sync is one way AFAIK (phone to PC), but with the
extra step of exporting it can be shared both ways.

    Hope it helps.

In my case a host a Nextcloud instance. For Android sync, I use DAVx5.

I just see that the vCards are in /home/$USER/.local/share/kpeoplevcard/ kdeconnect-UUID/
However, a new address book as a vCard folder only results in an empty address book.

In short, I have a folder full of vCards, but I am unable to import this folder into Kadressbook.
However, individual vCards from this folder can be imported.

Same here, except it's still (a very old) Owncloud here ;-P
But I basically only use it for Contact and Calendar syncing.
