Those are just rumors. Servers can have some features that can be activated by paying (like adding more cpus etc) but the C8000 is not a server.. is
just a workstation, and as such is fully unlocked.
As long as you have one of the cpu having a L2 cache, you just need to put inside another identical. Pay attention that the pa-8800 had an entry level cpu without level 2 cache (aka without the 32MB cache).. those are not allowing a 2nd cpu.
