• Progress! New SIMH RSTS/E V10.1

From Ronald Hudson@21:1/5 to All on Fri Aug 25 12:40:17 2023
    Hi Everyone,

I have been just able to get SIMH and RSTS on the air, I have my DZ's properly set up so I can simply telnet in from my laptop. As of right now, I don't think I should expose this machine to the Internet as a whole.

The machine runs non-stop on my server, simh is running under screen, a terminal multiplexer that lets me 'detach' simh and leave it in the background.

I have created myself a no-power user, so I have [1,2] login, and my login

Currently, I am not sure what range of dates this machine will accept at boot-time, it seems to only want dates in the year 1965. Any ideas?

Did real PDP/11s with RSTS ever have card readers?

I will need to read up on how to install other programs - notably Fortran.

We had one a Rose-Hulman on our 11/70 in the 70's and early 80's I can't remember the model #

OS notwithstanding, PDP11s could have card readers. DEC rebadged a
few manufacturers' readers, and sold the CR11 interface to control them.
We have a couple of these (readers and CR11s) at LSSM, but none are
    set up yet.

Hmm. Then SIMH might have a card reader for RSTS/E - Batch jobs!

Possible. But batch jobs were also run with a file as control.

In fact, under RSX, the card reader despooler to batch is actually
broken, and have been for many years without anyone noticing. I guess
noone have been using cards for batch control in ages. :-)
