• GIMP 2.10 and GIMP 2.8

From Charlie Roberts@21:1/5 to All on Thu May 3 17:22:34 2018
Thanks to lisa et. al. for letting me know about
    GIMP 2.10.

I use 2.8 a bit, and it is nice and stable. Is it
possible to have both versions, 2.8 and 2.10,
    at the same time?

I would like to have 2.8 as a backup in case I
    have problems with 2.10.

    +1

if you choose to customize the 2.10 install it's not possible to give
it it's own directory. Would be a nice option for v2.10.01 :-)

that's the wrong way to solve this problem.
I have a good working v2.8.xx with plugins I like to use.

Gimp v2.10 is the trouble maker!
So I installed the portable 2.10.0 version as test.
    Same problems with the plugins.
Other plugins are crashing when I try to use them.
The toolbox is now a collection of points and no longer icons.
You can fit them now all in one old
    Trying to start a plug-in for v2.10 failed because a lib named libgegl-0.4-0.dll is missing. Good luck finding it on the internet;
    I'm still searching ...

I think I have no problems with v2.10.0 out of the box, but I like my
v2.8.xx plugins too much to say goodby to them.

I will wait at least a month for a next test and hopefully most issues
    are solved.

Thanks for the inforamtion. Very useful.

I do not have that many plugins, but even so, I too shall wait for
things to settle down before moving to 2.10. I can live without
the couple of new filters for a while ....

I have just taken a quick look at it, it's a lot more than a couple of
filters. One thing I would hope for is adjustment layers, you can get by without them but even PS Elements has them. Updated plug-ins will no
    doubt become available in time.
I wonder if Mint 19 will come with gimp 2.10.2?
