The Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing (UKP) Lab at the Department of Computer Science, Technische Universität (TU) Darmstadt, Germany has an opening for a

Senior Research Scientist
(PostDoc-level; for an initial term of two to three years)

We are looking to strengthen the lab’s profile in scalable Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) with applications to Question Answering and related textual inference tasks. The role involves leading a newly established research
team with several PhD students within a recently funded DFG project SQUIARE on reusable NLP and QA infrastructure. We work with text and increasingly with multimodal content. Based on prior successful research products of the UKP Lab such as S-BERT [1]
or AdapterHub [2], we aim to release a novel NLP framework for the research community. The successful candidate is welcome to develop a research agenda in explainable NLP and QA, efficient and green NLP, and the NLP evaluation.

We are looking for outstanding candidates with a strong profile and PhD in Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing or Text Mining. Prior experience with relevant areas of NLP and Question Answering as well as strong engineering and leadership
skills are a plus. We highly appreciate demonstrable engagement in open-source projects, communication skills in English and the ability to effectively cooperate with scientists of various interdisciplinary backgrounds.

The research group [3] comprises over thirty team members working on cutting-edge NLP and Machine Learning. Their novel applications extend to mining scientific literature and social media, applied cybersecurity, or AI for the Social Good in general. UKP
Lab provides a highly agile, diverse and supportive research environment with a wide cooperation network of both leading academic and industrial partners. The Department of Computer Science of the TU Darmstadt is regularly ranked among the top ones in
