• Boot hangs after kernel update (kubuntu 20.04)

From Paulo da Silva@21:1/5 to All on Wed Jul 13 04:28:15 2022
    Hi!

I have installed a hwe kernel in my kubuntu 20.04. I needed to do that
because the standard kernel caused random freezes.
It has been working pretty well for long time even after changing a
couple of kernel versions, the last working one being 5.13.0.
Now there came another version 5.15.0. After a normal update and reboot
the system hangs at "Loading initial ramdisk"!
    Booting 5.13.0 still works fine.

I have tried to rebuild initramfs, reinstall the nvidia drivers,
    update-grub. No success :-(

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks
    Paulo

Seems to be a problem with that kernel. What nvidia GPU and what driver?
Does it also happen with nouveau?

Was "Loading initial ramdisk" followed by the LUKS prompt?

I would run "memtest" and make sure the RAM is good.

The MODULES=dep procedure, as described in your second link, fixed the
    problem :-)
    THANK YOU.
Thank you also to all who responded.
